Overview
GAANN Fellows will develop the basis for the next generation of intelligent, automation, and robotic technologies to sustain the future mining and construction industries. They will contribute to smart, autonomous cyber-physical systems designed to replace humans in all unit operations.
Research areas include:
- Environment Pre-Process Modeling
- Intelligent Machine Dynamics
- Object Detection and Tracking
- Road and Environment Tracking and Monitoring
- Multi-Sensor Suite Data Fusion
- Trajectory Analytics
- Intelligent Dynamic Decisions, Planning and Control
Program Benefits
- Financial support that includes a stipend of up to $34,000 per year (determined by FAFSA)
- Educational allowance up to $15,750 that covers all educational expenses, including tuition, fees, textbooks, materials, computer hardware/software, travel, and conference registration
- Mentoring by GAANN faculty and industry mentors, including successful alumni from previous GAANN programs
- Supervised teaching experience, preceded by training in effective teaching techniques
- Opportunities for peer mentoring and community outreach
Eligibility
The program is open to students who meet the following criteria:
- Have demonstrated financial need (as determined by FAFSA)
- Are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
- Are accepted into the regular or direct Ph.D. program (straight from B.S.) in Mining Engineering or Computer Science
- Have an excellent academic record
