Overview

GAANN Fellows will conduct research in the Department of Computer Science or in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under the co-guidance of faculty members from these two departments. Fellows will also have access to numerous laboratories and research centers. Research areas will be determined based on the student and their advisor. Possible research areas include:

  • Data Analytics using Machine Learning for Cyber Security
  • Surveillance using Smartphone Sensors for Persistent Object Tracking
  • Modeling Spatio-Temporal Autocorrelations using Machine Learning for Air Quality Monitoring for People Safety
  • Attribute-Based Encryption Scheme for Secure Multi-group Large Scale Big Data Sharing in Cloud
  • Machine Learning for Combat Cloud

Program Benefits

  • Fellowship Stipend: Up to $34,000 annually, based on financial need (as determined by FAFSA)
  • Educational Allowance: Up to $15,750 annually to cover tuition, research-related expenses, and travel
  • Academic and Research Support: Mentorship from GAANN faculty and academic advisors
  • Mentored Teaching Experience: Participate in teaching workshops and teach one undergraduate course over two semesters

Eligibility

To qualify, students must:

  • Demonstrate financial need (as determined by FAFSA)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be accepted into the regular or direct Ph.D. program in Computer Science at Missouri S&T
  • Have an excellent academic record
  • Plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research
