Education Tax Credits
You or your parents may be eligible for federal education tax credits, which can lower the amount of income tax owed:
- American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC): Provides a credit of up to $2,500 per eligible student for qualified education expenses paid during the first four years of higher education.
- Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC): Offers a credit of up to $2,000 per tax return for qualified tuition and related expenses, available for all years of postsecondary education and for courses to acquire or improve job skills.
